Researches from the University of Sydney and University of Western Sydney will be exploring the impact of the February 2011 earthquake on Christchurch’s LGBTI residents.

The survey seeks to better understand the ongoing impacts of the 22nd February 2011 earthquake on members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) community of Christchurch.

If you are over the age of 18, identify as LGBTI and you, your home or business were impacted by the earthquakes, we would very much appreciate your participation. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Answers are anonymous.

The survey is part of an Australian Research Council (ARC) funded project being undertaken by researchers at the University of Western Sydney and the University of Sydney. Research in various locations around the globe suggests that, as members of a marginalised group, LGBTI individuals, couples and families experience a range of vulnerabilities in natural disaster contexts. This project seeks to understand the extent to which LGBTI identity has played a role for Australians and New Zealanders impacted by disasters.

The researchers will also be conducting in-person interviews in New Zealand. If you would like to participate in a recorded interview or would like any further information about the project, please enter your email address at the end of the survey.
